OUR ALBUM

The term "King" in King of Borneo's name is not a symbol of self-existence or personal achievement but a tribute to the majesty of Kalimantan’s nature, which serves as the source of life for everything around it, including humans. The name "King" honors Borneo's rich biodiversity, dense tropical forests, and mighty rivers that sustain the island's entire ecosystem. For King of Borneo, nature is the "king"—not just a source of power but the heart of life, orchestrating the rhythm and balance of the universe. Kalimantan, with its natural wealth—tropical rainforests acting as the lungs of the world, rivers nourishing life, and invaluable flora and fauna—is the epicenter of all that is "alive" in this world. In King of Borneo’s view, nature is not merely a resource to be exploited but an entity of immense significance that must be protected.

King of Borneo is a band born out of love and respect for Kalimantan’s nature and its rich local culture. The concept of "King" represents nature’s supreme status as an entity greater than all living things on Earth—a place where life begins and ultimately returns. Through their music, King of Borneo strives to deliver messages about the importance of preserving nature, safeguarding local wisdom, and strengthening the bond between humans and their environment. In every piece of work, they blend tradition and modernity, presenting profound harmony to remind us all of the importance of maintaining life's balance on Earth. The essence of this philosophy is poured into their debut album, “Mamiara Banua.”

Breaking away from the anthropocentric paradigm that places humans at the center of the universe, Mamiara Banua is a Dayak Tamanik phrase meaning "to nurture a place." For King of Borneo, "place" refers to the living space and everything alive within it. Banua, or "place," represents a habitat and an arena for interaction, both physical and spiritual.

King of Borneo is not merely about musical expression but a movement dedicated to safeguarding nature from continuous degradation. Mamiara Banua is, therefore, a manifestation of King of Borneo’s gratitude and appreciation for the generosity of nature that has sustained humanity.
